The Queen Victoria on the French Riviera

In the spring of 1882, Queen Victoria, 62 years old, came on the Riviera for the first time. This region she called "A natural Paradise" transformed her life. When she arrived in France, she was very happy. She came nine times to the Riviera. "Oh if only I were in Nice, I would recover then" she said when she was dying.

She spent her time on the Riviera with John Brown, an actor and Abdul Karim, an Indian. Queen Victoria enjoyed being with a lot of people from all over the world.

The important people of the European monarchy went with Queen Victoria on the Riviera. Léopold II, for instance, the King of Belgium often came.
